UPHILL POLICY

Uphill Travel Policy

There is no uphill ski traffic allowed before Magic opens for the ski season as there is snowmaking equipment and hoses on and across trails. Magic has an uphill skiing policy which allows access to the mountain once our ski season begins on days the mountain is not typically running lifts (usually Monday-Wednesday non-holidays). The only exceptions being when we are open for private mountain rentals (no uphill allowed) and on official “powder day” openings where Magic receives 6” or more of new snow that uphill traffic may not access the mountain both the day before the Powder day when it snowing through  until the lift spins at 9am, along with the ticket-paying skiing public.

As uphill travelers on Magic’s closed days do not purchase or obtain a ticket to access the mountain, any uphillers take complete and sole responsibility for their activity on the mountain and all risks associated with such voluntary activity and hold harmless Magic Mountain, Ski Magic LLC, its employees and investors from any loss or injury while on Magic’s property.

When Magic’s lifts are operating, uphillers must obtain a ticket at the ticket window before skiing on Magic’s property. If no ticket is visible and adhered to the uphill traveler, mountain employees reserve the right to ask the traveler to turn around and obtain an appropriate ticket before continuing uphill–this includes Magic season pass holders. It is the responsibility of uphill travelers to monitor the trail report for changes to trail openings and conditions. Uphillers cannot access Magic and ski its trails from Timber Ridge or any other area off Magic’s property, without first obtaining an uphill or lift ticket due to liability risks. Do not ski down closed trails.

Uphill traffic must use the designated uphill trail in the woods to the left of the Green Chair/Lower Magic Carpet run-out (looking up the mountain). The trail is marked with reflective orange markers that have black arrows pointing in the direction of the trail. If the uphill trail in the woods does not have enough snow cover, then uphill travel will be permitted on the most eastern (lookers left) trail up (lower Magic Carpet, to Up Your Sleeve, to White Out/Upper Magic Carpet). Uphill travel on any trail other than these designated uphill paths is not permitted. Uphillers must proceed up the hill in single file on the left side of the trail. Uphillers must yield to all downhill traffic and must adhere to all trail closures. Do not go up the hill in the middle of the trail at any time when Magic is open for the day and take all care not to ruin the hard work of our groomers.

No dogs are allowed to accompany Uphill Skiers or Riders (even on a leash) when the mountain is open to the public as you put the dog and other people at risk of injury. However, dogs can accompany snowshoe uphillers, but it is mandatory that dogs be on a short leash (6’ max) at all times to protect other skiers/riders. Uphillers must pick up after their dogs and carry out the bags and dispose of them properly at home, not on Magic property.

Uphill skiers should never access the mountain alone when it is closed and never ski any glades or backcountry alone. Any rescue mission costs for backcountry, side country, or gladed activity will be the sole responsibility of the uphiller. Any rescue costs when the mountain is closed to the public will be the sole responsibility of the uphiller. In the event of an emergency, call ski patrol at (802) 428-3301. The Airflare app is also recommended to aid seach and rescue efforts.

Be aware that when the mountain is closed there is the probability of mountain operations equipment being active: grooming machines, snowmobiles, snowmaking equipment and hoses. It is the traveler’s sole responsibility to use caution and avoid all such vehicles and equipment.

Again, uphillers assume their own risk in accessing Magic Mountain and Ski Magic LLC bears no liability for any injuries or accidents. Not following these policies will result in loss of ticket and repeated violations will result in no access to Magic in the future as Magic is private property.

Be safe, be courteous and be smart.

Always let someone know where you are; please carry communications and safety equipment; and bring extra food, water, clothing if you are headed off-piste. Bring out what you brought in. Thank you.

Uphill Trail must be used at all times and is marked in Red on the map above. There are trail marker signs on the trail itself.
