LEARNING AT MAGIC

Magic Snowsports recognizes that we all have to start somewhere and not all mountains are the same when it comes to skiing and riding, and we’re here to help. Our team of instructors will set you up with a strong set of skills, techniques and understanding to get you to where you want to be on the snow.

The Nelson Family Learning Area at Magic is set up for beginners to have a safe space to learn their ski and snowboard skills. The Sunkids Conveyor Lift takes you to the top of our terrain based learning slope to prepare you for what the rest of the mountain has to offer. Our goal is to set you up with the strongest set of skills, techniques and understanding of your gear, so you can make the most of all of your days in the mountains.

For non-beginners, Magic’s mid-mountain Green Lift is a perfect proving ground for you and our instructors to take your skiing and riding to next level with a fun mix of advance beginner and intermediate terrain so your skills can grow to feel comfortable tackling the upper mountain’s more advanced terrain.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Plan to arrive just before your lesson starts outside at the Snowsports Lessons sign or doorway. If you need rental equipment, that should be ordered online and you should pick equipment up and be ready-to-go before your lesson time. If you have a morning lesson, please let the rental department know that time so they give a slot earlier than the lesson.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We recommend all students wear a helmet to their lesson. If you do not own a helmet, you may rent one from the Rental Shop. Goggles are also recommended as weather can change quickly and eye protection will make a huge difference in your comfort during your lesson. You should dress in layers that can be added or removed as needed. Clothing that is made of a moisture wicking material are best (no cotton) as your base layer. Outerwear should be waterproof and warm. Socks that are designed specifically for skiing and snowboarding are also HIGHLY recommended. You’ll want to make sure socks aren’t bundled up inside your boots, this can be incredibly uncomfortable. We recommend a sock that is calf high. Ankle socks create a terrible pressure point and will cause discomfort during the lesson. Waterproof, warm gloves are also important. A neck gaiter/face mask should be worn on cold days, this adds extra protection from the elements. Hand & toe warmers may also bring comfort during particularly cold days. All of these items are available for purchase in our Retail Shop. Please remember that we ski and snowboard every day, regardless of the weather. Make sure you check the weather before your travels to plan ahead. If you do forget something, our Retail Shop is conveniently located next to our Ski School office. Mask-wearing is recommended inside at all times.

WHERE DO I PICK UP RENTALS?

Our rental shop is located at the base area lower level. You can enter through the slope-side lodge entrance and head to the right through doors and downstairs. Once you are done being fitted, they will send you out the back door. From there you will make a right and head back up to the Ski School area to meet your instructor/check-in outside of the ski school office area. Mask wearing is recommended inside at all times.

DO I NEED A LIFT TICKET?

Yes, all lessons require a lift ticket. We have both a less expensive Beginner area / Learning Zone Only ticket, as well as a ticket to ride all our chairlifts. You can purchase your lift ticket at the same time you pay for your lesson online at our ticket store.

WHERE DO LESSONS MEET?

All Lessons will meet outside the Snowsports Learning Center office, so please make sure you are listening for student name. Please make your way to this area 10 minutes before your lesson begins. Always be suited up and ready to go when you arrive to your lesson. Make sure snowboard boots are tied tight, ski boots are fully buckled & helmets are clipped. Your instructor may ask that you show them your abilities to ensure they are not taking you to a part of the mountain that is beyond your skill level. We want you to learn & have fun, not struggle.

CAN I REQUEST AN INSTRUCTOR?

You may request instructors for an additonal $10 fee but must pay ahead of time as you communicate with the snowsports team via email. Tipping is encouraged for our instructors as well.

GRATUITY?

Gratuity is not required, but appreciated by our staff. Most people tip 15-20% the cost of the lesson. You are welcome to hand this directly to your instructor at the end of the lesson.

HOW LONG ARE LESSONS?

½ day lessons are 2 hours, Full Day lessons are 4 hours (9:30-11:30am and 1:00pm-3:00pm). These are longer lesson times than most ski resorts.
