SKI REPORT
March 6th 3:10pm Update: Really good spring ski day here today. Tonight it will turn colder which we need it to do, so we can do more grooming on the snowmaking trails plus a couple of all-natural trails. There will be more all-natural terrain open for Friday which will be firm but should be quite edge-able as the colder air dries the snow out with no skier ruts as we closed much of that terrain today to protect it. Those will be for advanced skiers only with some tuned edges. Also, Friday and Saturday nights with the cold air returning after this wet storm, we will invest in some more snowmaking to shore up some areas on key trails! Remember we have March ticket savings going on now for Thursdays and Fridays with $76 adult and $56 dollar youth tickets available online. Also this Saturday we have the Night Park from 4-7pm with $29 tickets available online. And with Daylight Savings Time happening early Sunday morning, that means next Saturday the 15th we begin our new lift schedule for the remainder of the season with lifts running from 9-5pm for extra skiing time on Saturdays with the sun out later!
10:30am Update: West Side now open. Fog has lifted. Conditions are very good with soft, carving snow!
9am Update: There will be a slight delay on lift ops as the groomer is out on the hill making a few tracks on the easier terrain. Expect Red Lift to be open by 9:15am While we wanted to let the trails drain of water without a snowcat on it, the conditions are firmer today than expected so be aware of that on the trails. The r**n has ended but there are foggy/low visibility conditions half way up the hill. The Beginner conveyor lift is the best call for beginner level skiers today rather than the summit lift as there is no beginner way down. Beginner area will be groomed out by 9:45am. The warmth and wet storm has done significant erosion to snowpack on some of the upper mountain all-natural snow steeps.
7am: This very wet storm is pulling away this morning, and we will spin the Red Chair only to the summit with the beginner conveyor lift as requested in the learning area for beginner level skiers and riders. Our current plan is to give the all-natural snow trails and glades a chance to drain fully with no skiing before the refreeze takes place tonight so that we prevent frozen skiing ruts there for Friday into the weekend. We will not be putting groomers on the wet snow today on the mountain until the moisture is drained out and some all-natural trails will open back up once they have a chance to dry out and firm up. So we start the day with skiing on 15 snowmaking trails on both the East and West Side with variable spring-like conditions. Patrol will be out assessing conditions before opening and we will update any changes to this plan. Temps will be in the 40s all day so there will be softer conditions down low today with no freeze up until tonight and then the groomers can do their work for Friday (1-2″ predicted) and into the weekend on both the snowmaking trails and some all-natural trails as well. The weekend looks to be mostly sunny both Saturday and Sunday with temps right around 30 degrees with some intense wind to contend with on Friday and Saturday. For the month of March and April we have a Spring Special of just $76 tickets on Thursdays and Fridays for all, not just locals!
This weekend we have more ski fun, good food and apres bevs at the Black Line Tavern. The Mike McMann Band on Saturday night from 7-10p with the Ski Patrol Silent Auction on Satuday as well! It is all Ski Patrol’s big annual fundraiser and auction on Saturday so please turn out and support our patrol in the upper lodge and BLT for this special event Saturday afternoon!
Vermonters and businesses in Vermont are already feeling the effects of the tariff war with Canada on energy prices which this state depends on Canada to a significant degree. Despite this pressure on our costs, we think it’s important to continue to keep our prices to you as low as possible, at least in the short term. In fact, we’d like to help offset some higher costs you will be seeing by providing $20 off tickets in March on all Thursdays and Fridays. Visit our estore to purchase $76 adult and $56 youth tickets for these days. Thank you for supporting local and small businesses.
